East Kent MECS Pilot - Launched July 2018

We are pleased to confirm that three of the East Kent Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) launched their MECS Service pilot on Monday 16th July 2018. South Kent Coastal CCG has not yet agreed the details of the pilot so will not be joining at this stage. The pilot, therefore, will be open to all East Kent practices (and any North and West Kent practices) who see a number of patients registered with Ashford, Thanet and Canterbury and Coastal GPs.
For a reminder of the paperwork required, please click here for a copy of the email sent out recently. Please click here for a copy of the current list of participating practices.
Please click on the links below for a copy of a letter from the CCGs. Please note that non participating Optometrists referring to the Single Point of Access (SPA) must do so via an email address. If they are not able to do this, they will need to refer via the GP.

There was an East Kent Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS) Launch Event on Tuesday 24th July. Please click here for a report on the meeting.

East Kent IOP Repeat Service

This scheme will require you to repeat the pressure, using Perkins or Goldmann, of any patient whose IOP is greater than 24. If, on a repeat, it is still over 24 then you should recall them and repeat on a different occasion. The fee for providing this will initially be £33 in total whether one repeat or two.  Please click on the links below for the service protocol and a flowchart explaining how the service works.

If your practice would like to participate and has not yet submitted the required paperwork, please email Michelle Martins at for more details and to register your interest.  Please click here for details of the paperwork/training required.
